Sustainable tourism destination management

We are delighted to present an exclusive offer for tourism destinations: a two-day intensive training session on sustainable management of tourist destinations in compliance with the Global Sustainable Tourism Criteria.

Why must tourism destinations prioritize sustainability?

Tourism, while a significant driver of economic growth, has a profound impact on the environment, society's wellbeing, and cultural life. Traditionally, the success of tourism destinations has been measured by the sheer number of arrivals, with tourism ministers often evaluated based on this metric's annual growth. However, this approach is increasingly seen as insufficient, especially in the face of escalating challenges like climate change and plastic waste.

The urgency for destinations to embark on a sustainability journey is underscored by these pressing environmental issues. Climate change and the proliferation of plastic waste are stark reminders of the need for sustainable tourism practices. These practices are essential not only for preserving natural and cultural resources but also for ensuring the long-term health and prosperity of local communities. By shifting the focus from quantity to the quality of tourism, destinations can mitigate their environmental impact, contribute to the fight against climate change, and manage plastic waste more effectively. This holistic approach to tourism success values environmental stewardship, cultural integrity, and social equity, alongside economic benefits, creating a balanced and responsible tourism experience for both visitors and residents.
